In search of Genghis Khan

The location of Mongol warrior Genghis Khan’s burial site is an 800-year-old mystery. I joined 86-year old American adventurer Alan Nichols on a flag expedition to solve the puzzle. Nichols is a published author, expert on sacred mountains and former president of the Explorers Club, a New York-founded international society that promotes scientific exploration.

His route, decided through on-the-ground research and a process of elimination, took us on a surreal camel trek through the Tengger Desert, heading towards “Mountain X”. It was fascinating to watch him work – Nichols believes in old-school, traditional ‘shoe-leather’ exploration: where you go out and really beat the pavement to find the information.
